James (“The Amazing”) Randi was a wonderful magician in his time, but he also had another agenda – exposing fakes. A brilliant man, he always explained that he was fooling audiences for entertainment and he chastised people who claimed to be psychics. For years he went after Yuri Geller and he exposed minister Peter Popoff’s supposedly healing ministry. He even showed that many scientists studying psychic phenomena could be fooled by tricks. A second theme revolves around his longtime relationship with Jose Alverez. Randi “came out” at the age of 81.
