Anthony Porter was sentenced to death in 1983 for the murder of two other teenagers in Chicago. Years later, in 1999, under the direction of David Protess, a journalism professor at the prestigious Northwestern University, students worked to “prove” him innocent. Along the way, they found the “real” killer, Alstory Simon. Porter walked, the death penalty was abolished in Illinois, Protess and his students became heroes. But it was all wrong, very wrong. Police and FBI were outraged. A defense attorney friend of mind used to tell me all the time to avoid at all costs any connection to the criminal “justice” system. This fascinating and enraging movie affirms this good advice.
