USA, directed by Paul Ashton
Mad Cow’s rating:
This Aussie filmmaker has made a sweet romantic comedy about a stand-up comedian and a slacker. It’s not Nora Ephron (RIP, Nora I miss you), but this is Ashton’s first major feature and he definitely shows promise. The dialogue and visuals are good. The plot weakens in spots with what appears to be fillers of mad drug-taking sprees that seem to serve no purpose other than to extend the time. Our heroine’s drug taking for her depression, however, is treated with care. Paul Ashton and Katie Page, the stars, also co-wrote the plot, which is based on their relationship.
